The Syracuse Gay & Lesbian Chorus has been invited to perform as part of Onondaga Community College’s 2009-2010 Arts Across Campus Performance Series. On Friday, September 25, 2009 at 7pm SGLC will present its highly-acclaimed concert: “Stonewall Revisited: Celebrating 40 Years.”
This partnership is the combined dedication of OCC to diversity and SGLC to sharing music with the world. The Arts Across Campus program is designed to present students, faculty, and community members with access to high quality artistic and cultural events. These programs complement public trends and interests, provide opportunities for access, and foster a collective imagination among our students and our community. This is the first time an LGBT-themed performance has been presented as part of this arts series and SGLC is proud to represent our community in this way.
As for the concert, The Syracuse Gay & Lesbian Chorus offers a trip down memory lane with “Stonewall Revisited: Celebrating 40 Years.” SGLC has assembled an upbeat musical evening of jukebox hits and gay pride themes all in celebration of the men and women who have laid the groundwork for the lives of LGBT Americans today.
Audience members can look forward to such hits as Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In, Put a Little Love in Your Heart, and Build Me Up Buttercup. These radio hits will be mixed with pride-filled themes including Singing Out, Before Stonewall and Color Out Of Colorado. Readings and information from the time period will be shared. It is sure to be an entertaining evening for the whole audience.
The chorus, which is in its 18th season, is a community choral ensemble of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people and their allies, dedicated to providing and performing an eclectic and entertaining offering of quality choral music which reflects the diverse nature of our community and serves to unite us with the wider community around us. The nearly 30-member group of men and women has performed at a variety of local events, including AIDS Awareness Day, Crime Victims’ Memorial, the annual Pride Parade, the Great New York State Fair and the Westcott Cultural Festival.
