The Syracuse Gay & Lesbian Chorus Visits Utica with “Stonewall Revisited” Concert

The Syracuse Gay & Lesbian Chorus will present its highly-acclaimed “Stonewall Revisited: Celebrating 40 Years” at Plymouth Bethesda United Church on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.

It has been 40 years since the police raid on the Stonewall Inn on Friday July 27, 1969. This infamous night is considered the kickoff of the gay rights movement in the United States and abroad. It is this time that we celebrate. Raids were not unusual in 1969; in fact, they were conducted regularly without much resistance. However, that night the street erupted into violent protest as the crowds in the bar fought back. The backlash and several nights of protest that followed have come to be known as the Stonewall Riots.

The Syracuse Gay & Lesbian Chorus offers a trip down memory lane with “Stonewall Revisited: Celebrating 40 Years.” SGLC has assembled an upbeat musical evening of jukebox hits and gay pride themes all in celebration of the men and women who have laid the groundwork for the lives of LGBT Americans today.

Audience members can look forward to such hits as Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In, Put a Little Love in Your Heart, and Build Me Up Buttercup. These radio hits will be mixed with pride-filled themes including Singing Out, Before Stonewall and Color Out Of Colorado. It is sure to be an entertaining evening for the whole audience.

The concert is presented in partnership with Pride Along the Mohawk. Tickets are $10 in advance and $13 the logonight of the show. For ticket information contact 315-734-1653. The concert will be presented in the Fellowship Hall of Plymouth Bethesda United Church, 500 Plant Street, Utica, New York. A reception will follow the performance. Plymouth Bethesda is a handicap accessible location.

Syracuse Gay & Lesbian Chorus Launches Fresh Website

June 30, 2009

SYRACUSE

The Syracuse Gay & Lesbian Chorus (SGLC) proudly announces the launch of our new, audience-focused website this month. The site has been designed in response to concerns that the previous site was limited in features and access for the public.

The new interactive components of the website include a News and Blog reel that will be updated by the Chorus to announce the many varied events in which we participate. It is our hope that friends and supporters of SGLC will be able to have a one-stop place for the latest information on the Chorus.

In addition to the News and Blog reel, a Newsfeed option has been put in place, where website visitors can sign up for up-to-the-minute news and information about the Chorus and upcoming performances. Also, the new site will have links of supporters’ websites showcasing their commitment to diversity in our community and their generous support of the Chorus. It is our hope that this will attract new supporters through the web and widen our circle of friends in the community.

The sleek re-design was created by Joe Stabb of JoeStabb.com. Stabb is a member of the SGLC Board of Directors and assists in the publicity and advertising of the Chorus. His expertise in the web arena has given new hope to the Chorus on their potential web presence. In a community where web access and internet socializing is now the norm, the website seeks to bring a new audience to the Chorus.

“It is very exciting that we are taking this step forward,” says Cindie Murray, Chair of the SGLC Board. “We have wanted to create a larger web presence for a log time. It is wonderful to see it start to happen.”
